“Can we do seven?”
Nail and Lauren from Standout Performance tell their story of what sets them apart - the focus on results
Nail believes what sets the team apart is the focus on results - yes they are fun and there's lots of play with the toddlers, but as the children progress, they grow in confidence as they see the results and that is celebrated by the teachers and the families
Standout Performance started by Nail and Lauren during COVID, when classes were held in parks, to help keep children moving and learn new skills. So many people wanted to join in that they opened their first studio soon after and now have four locations across Hong Kong
Gymnastics is one of the few children’s activities where discipline - physical and mental - is visible from the outset
I asked what toddlers can learn from gymnastics_x000D_
“It’s obviously doing basic skills and things, but also learning the discipline. Gymnastics is hard. Gymnastics is discipline. Learning how to line up at the bars, wait your turn, listen to the coach, follow the instructions.”_x000D_

I asked what parents often underestimate_x000D_
“Parents underestimate, for example, doing one simple move. That simple move took years to perfect.”_x000D_

“You need to do A and B before you can get to C.”_x000D_

“Have respect for the sport itself. That’s what we try to emulate through our classes.”
I asked Nail what he enjoys most now._x000D_
“I like to see results, but recently I start enjoying more. Today, one kid — I said, ‘We need to do five pull-ups.’ And she was like, ‘Oh, can we do seven?’ When they asking to do more, that’s become my favourite thing.”
Ask a coach what your child would be working towards, what kind of practice do they need and how focused and motivated are they during the sessions
