An audition can feel like a judgement on a child, even when the decision is about a particular role or group. I would ask the team how they prepare children, what they look for and how they explain the result.

Check what preparation is actually expected

• Ask how the team helps a nervous child
• Find out whether feedback is available
• Talk about what comes next if a child is not cast
