Baumhaus teaches Kindermusik through songs, instruments, movement and musical play. Its Wan Chai studio also has a playroom and space for caregivers to meet, with classes offered at satellite venues too.
What we thought
Music class
Wan Chai
1–2 years
8 children
English
The live singing was the thing that stayed with us. Music became something to move with, rather than just listen to.
What the session was like
Welcome circle with a live song
A weekly theme explored through music and movement
Instruments including drums, shakers, maracas and triangles
Movement with scarves, hoops and other props
A short calm-down or “nap” moment
Closing goodbye song
What we loved
The quality of the singing, and feeling fast, slow, stopping and starting through movement
After coming regularly, we saw children begin to clap and stop to the beat
What we noticed
Children could move, cry or step out. Teachers noticed when a child was ready for more and suggested moving up
The guitar and familiar opening routine brought the group together quickly, with room to explore in between
Worth knowing
Adults stayed at this age. The Wan Chai venue is above M&S, with a café and wooden playroom
We liked arriving early or staying afterwards for a little extra play
